Board of Finance meeting Tuesday August 15, 2006, 6:30 PM at Eno Hall, 754 Hopmeadow St.
This is the MOST CRITICAL MEETING to date on this preservation effort! PLEASE COME TO ENO TONIGHT!
This is a rare opportunity that the Board of Finance is having Public Audience, and it is devoted entirely to the preservation of the Ethel Walker Property. Tonight the Board will decided whether or not to send this item to referendum and thereby give the 16,000 Simsbury voters the final word on preserving this land.
It is unbelievable (but true) that the Board of Finance could try to kill this deal. A Referendum on an appropriation of less than $11.1 million WILL KILL the negotiated preservation deal. The price has been established, the Trust for Public Land is spearheading $2.75 million in private fundraising, we have two state grants, and we and others are seeking money from a variety of sources to defray the cost to the town. Everyone agrees that this is a critical piece of land to preserve for many reasons. We demand that this issue goes to Town Referendum at the negotiated appropriation of
11.1 million dollars.
Come to Eno so you can see and hear, and be seen and heard, as a supporter of this preservation effort. Many people are not on this email list – make sure to forward this to people and tell them to come. Children can attend – everyone is welcome.
Some major points:
1. The Town CAN afford this.
2. The land has economic value in its undeveloped state.
3. Preservation of this land ensures clean drinking water.
4. This should be decided by the 16,000 VOTERS not the 6 members of the Board of Finance.
5. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to preserve a piece of land of this quality and quantity – it is now or never.
