Greetings!
The public hearing on the Face of CT this Friday in
The Face of Connecticut legislation would, among other
provisions: 1) provide for increased funding for natural areas, farmland and
historic properties acquisition, 2) establish a new Stewardship small grants
program for towns and land trusts to implement projects such as creating public
access, removing invasive plants or refuse dumps, or installing gates, 3)
establish a new grants program for land trusts to help them improve their
organizational capacity; 4) increase funding for State Parks and State Forests
staff, increase funding for regional planning; and 5) provide funding for
project planning and assessment for brownfields remediation and historic
properties restoration. For more information on the Face of
General idea of what to write: Farms, green space,
historic preservation, parks, redevelopment, stewardship, clean water - CT
NEEDS TO INVEST IN THEM – NOW! Also, there is a bill right now before
the chair of the Environment Committee about state funding for the EWS
property, phase II. Put the EWS property in your statement - hearing the
name again and again might help us get an appropriation ASAP from the
legislature for Phase II.
The BEST OPTION Friday is to attend and submit written
testimony, but the testimony has to be there 2 hours prior to the start of the
hearing at 10:15. And there must be 60 copies. So if you get your
comments, name and address (anywhere in CT) to Lisa, you can sleep in on Friday
J and show up mid-morning. Otherwise
bring your 60 copies at 8:15 (and sign up for a spot to speak if you wish). Or
just show up even without any testimony at 10:15 to show your support.
At the last two open space press conferences, Keep the Woods
had more people there than any other grass roots organization. We have
set the bar, and we need to meet it again!!
Even if you can’t show up exactly at 10:15, come by –
it will likely go on for some time. We need a good showing at the
beginning, and continued interest during the hearing. These hearings are
a great place to meet people. Bring donation information, which is all available
here: www.keepthewoods.org/donate.php
We are going to be compiling a password-protected list of
donors for people working on the fundraising to cross-check with. If you
have been meaning to send in a check and haven’t, now is time to get on
the list J
