Updates on Closing and Major Celebration: 

 

The closing of Phase I is imminent; such a large transaction among multiple parties and several state agencies is predictably complex.  The Celebration will be sometime AFTER the weekend of June 23-24 to allow adequate time to plan and organize among all partners.  We will keep you posted on both fronts!

 

Memorial Day Award and State Funding:  Rob Heagney received a Citizenship and Service Award on Memorial Day in Simsbury.  We thank him for all his work locally and at the state level getting support and funding for this property.  Thank you also goes out to Linda Schofield for open space appropriations in the state budget for 2009.

 

National Trail Day is Saturday, June 2nd. 

 

Get out and enjoy the Ethel Walker property OR hike and meet Rep. Chris Murphy on the MMM Trail (www.mmmtrail.org) on Saturday morning in Simsbury.  The MMM trail is part of pending legislation, H.R. 1528, the New England National Scenic Trail Designation, which would designate the MMM a National Scenic Trail – equivalent status to the Appalachian Trail.  This designation is a great opportunity for tourism and economic development which takes advantage of the wonderful set of historic and natural resources that Simsbury has to offer – and are just some of the reasons why Simsbury was designated a Preserve America town.

Blue Blazed Metacomet Trail, Heublein Tower

4 hour hike

(Rep. Murphy will be participating from 9:00 - 10:30 am)

Meet at 9:00 am, Penwood State Park (Route 185 Simsbury)
