This is an interim communication on an urgent legislative issue.  

 

Late in the Connecticut legislative session, and late that night – by VOICE VOTE rather than official roll call - an amendment was attached to House Bill 1341 to allow mining on specific Class I and Class II water lands.  If such a permit is ever granted, it should be discussed in the light of day with full disclosure.  Many groups have weighed in on this issue, including Rivers Alliance, Connecticut League of Conservation Voters, League of Women Voters, Sierra Club, and many many others.  This type of amendment is called a “rat.”

Governor Rell has until Saturday, July 14 to VETO Bill 1341 or it automatically becomes law.  

 

Please, as soon as possible, call or email Governor Rell at governor.rell@po.state.ct.us

 

Ask her to VETO House Bill 1341.  This is urgent; sneaking this amendment onto the bill is not good government.  High quality groundwater and Class I and II water lands should be given the highest level of scrutiny and protection.
