I saw this flyer up in the store the other day, and could not
believe, that some Greedy developer is going to ruin this land!! There
is not much land left in CT as It is,not to say the natural untouched
woods. Im not from Simsbury but I think this whole thing Is B.S, where
is all the wild life going to go?? what about the drinking water?? and
what about the preservation. Its all about the money.Whats going to
happen when there is no land left??? We have to look at pictures to
remember what woods looked like someday.all for what......money. I wish
I could buy the land, that way I could save It, for people to enjoy the
natural beauty, of the woods...... Thanks ...to the
Developers............Brian ): |

Although I don't live in CT, I am very concerned about the
destruction done to our land by the constant development of businesses
and homes. Our wildlife need a place to live. When we destroy their
habitat, they will find homes in our neighborhoods, which isn't healthy
for man or creature. Furthermore, we need to have natural, undeveloped
land for the pure pleasure of enjoying God's earth. What will become of
our environment if you take it away? We have more than enough land to
redevelop without disturbing the land that all wildlife need. |

Vote for Dave Ryan if you want to keep the woods. Dave Ryan
and his fellow democrats are committed to the preserving the rural
nature of our town. That includes preserving open space land. By
contrast, Tom Vicent did nothing about the situation and hid it from
public view. Keep the woods made it an issue, otherwise the land would
have been sold and bulldozed by now. Vote Democrat for responsive
government. Vote for Dave Ryan. http://www.simsbury.dems.info |

While this is an open message board and people may express
their support for certain candidates. Keep the Woods is not offically
endorsing any one candidate or party. As I have stated in e-mails to
the membership, we are a diverse group and can openingly work with any
commission or board member that is chosen in today's election. At the
very least I have encourage everyone to get out and vote after doing
their own research. |

Saw the article in today's Hartford Courant. Congratulations
Keep the Woods!.and of course the town of Simsbury for using the Trust
for Public Land to save this property. TPL understands the value of
land, beyond the immediate financial gain that development brings. Is
Ethel Walker now dealing with TPL to preserve this land? One more
question? Does the Trust for Public Land know(I assume Ethel Walker
knows) that the property contains the major aquifer for Simsbury? Happy
Thanksgiving KTW. More citizens caring about preservation, will be your
gift to generations to come. |

How much do they want for the land? |

how much is the land worth? |

Depends on to whom you talk to. Both the town and EWS have
conducted appraisals of the land yet neither will reveal their numbers
while the negotiations are ongoing. The town and state offered 7.3
million for the land a few years back to give you an idea of the order
of magnitude (town offered 6 million with the balance coming from a
state grant). EWS rejected this offer. The real answer, of course, is
that the land is priceless as it is over Simsbury's drinking water
supply and acts as a natural filter for our water if left in its
undeveloped state. Any development of this land will dramatically
degrade its natural filtering function. Additionally the homes,
streets, and fertilized yards of the proposed subdivision will result
in polluted runoff entering our drinking supply. And it not just
Simsbury's drinking supply. The aquifer under the land also feeds
drinking water to Grandby and E. Grandby. The land is essentially
unprotected watershed currently. Please see the Drink Water Quality
link on the keepthewoods.org site. |

how much does EWS think they could make by selling the
building rights / building a sub-division? |
Fri Jan 13 14:58:27 2006 |

My understanding is that the previous offer of 7.3 million
was for an outright sale - something the school may not have wanted as
the land is valuable to the school. Selling the development rights
means that the school will keep ownership and use and still get nearly
the same amount of money. |

The Educational Forum was wonderful! It is good to know there
are citizens who care about the water and forests in Simsbury. And you
take the time to spread the word, keep up the Good Work, Keep the
Woods!!!! |
