Donate For Preservation
The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national non-profit organization that specializes in negotiating and financing land transactions. TPL will accept cash donations, pledges, and/or gifts of stock and use them towards the $2.75 Million sum needed to close the deal.
If you intent to donate appreciated stock, please see these instructions (Word Doc).
Correspondence accompanying donations should indicate that the gift is to be used to purchase the Ethel Walker Land. Checks should be made payable to “The Trust For Public Land”. You can use this form (DOC, also available as an RTF file) to accompany your donation or pledge.
Donors with questions should contact the New Haven office of the Trust for Public Land.

Double your gift!
You may be able to double your impact through your employer’s matching program. A partial list of companies that match their employee’s charitable contributions can be found here (also available as a Word Doc).
Tax deductibility!
TPL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations to TPL are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Use your own judgment and/or speak to your accountant about the deductibility of your gift. Generally, you can wait to take the deduction in the year the land acquisition is completed (or get the money back from the TPL if the preservation effort is unsuccessful). Alternatively, you can take the deduction immediately, and if the acquisition is unsuccessful you can direct your gift to another similar land conservation effort of which the TPL is a part of.

Please also consider writing letters to friends and neighbors asking them to donate to this project. Use this letter (Word Doc) if you’d like (also available as a RTF).
Thanks to State of Connecticut businesses who took advantage of a 60% tax credit for donations to the Farmington River Watershed Association (FRWA) under the Neighborhood Assistance Act. These donations will be applied to the $2.75 million that TPL and its partners have committed to raising for the preservation of the Ethel Walker Woods. Please see this page on FRWA site for more information.
